Launch your name into space
Introduction and a cautionary tale
We are delighted that you are interested in space exploration, but request that you submit your name to be launched on board NEOSSat only if you are willing to be counted as an individual interested in asteroid exploration. We wish to use the count of names that we receive (but not the names themselves) to indicate to decision makers the level of interest in asteroids amongst citizens of the world. We are collecting Canadian and international names separately so that we have counts relevant to the two different milieus. Many international organizations have issued statements supporting asteroid searching and exploration, but this has yet to be followed by significant investment by most such organizations into new search systems to explore the near-Earth asteroid population. If the level of interest can be recorded, this may help stimulate a higher rate of asteroid discovery and exploration.
